My days in China as a student are becoming fading memories
now.
Glimpses of my past days are called up and pass through my mind
like a film, when I was so prone to constant goofs and blunders
because of all the peculiar and unfamiliar things in that foreign
culture.
Beginning first with my fascination with Kayagum, a Korean instrument
with 12 strings, I came to be drawn to the Pipa, an ancient
traditional musical instrument well established in China but
not widely known in Korea yet, and I decided to study it.
After going through so many days of joy as well as sorrow with
Pipa at the China School of Music in China, I am standing before
you today to invite you to the world of Pipa through my performance.
It is a great honor to have my own recital here on the stage;
however, I cannot deny that I feel a certain inner burden at
this moment because I am dealing with an art that demands nothing
less than perfection.
Even though I have some concern about whether my performance
will touch you and resonate in your heart with its unique and
harmonious sound as it does in mine, I want to promise you that
I will do my best to present you the finest performance I can
summon.
I will continue to devote myself to pursuing a more mature performance
of the Pipa. I invite anyone who loves music to share in the
wonderful sound of the Pipa and to let it reach down in your
heart and soul and uplift you. Thank you. |
