Born in 1964 in Taejon, Korea, Eun-yeong
Han studied at Gwacheon Girls¡¯ High School and Duksung
Women¡¯s University majoring in Chemistry.
While in University, she was deeply interested in Korean
traditional music, and learned Kayagum, Daegeum, and Janggu
from Master Myeong-suk Lee. During this time, she came
to learn that there was a gap in the continuation of the
Korean traditional instrument of Hyang Pipa due to historical
reasons, and that most historical records and examples
of the instrument were missing. This led her to go to
China to learn more about Pipa.
Once she arrived at China in 1993, she started to learn
from Yang Jeong, an associate professor at the China
School of Music, and went on to enroll at the China
School of Music in order to systematically further her
study of the Pipa.
Though she majored in the Pipa, she also minored in
Yanggeum, Gogeum, Gojaeng and Joongwan to expand her
understanding of Chinese traditional music. Her relentless
efforts have rewarded her with recognition from professors
as well as her peer students, and through her
performance activities, she has also won remarkable
acclaim from people in the various fields.
After eight years of intensive training, she received
her degree in performance from the People¡¯s Musical
Instrument Department of China School of Music.
